Mayurbhanj, May 5: A devastating accident occurred near Balishulia village under Shuliapada police limits in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha, when a pickup van carrying labourers overturned, leaving one dead and 29 others critically injured.
The incident took place around 8 pm on Sunday as the workers were returning home after collecting sal leaves from the Chauldhuani forest.
The deceased has been identified as Kavita Ram (34), who succumbed to her injuries while undergoing treatment at Pandit Raghunath Murmu Medical College, Baripada.
The injured workers, hailing from Kamaradiha and Khunta areas, were initially given primary treatment at Kushta Health Centre before being shifted to Baripada Medical College for advanced care.
Local residents rushed to the scene and alerted Shuliapada police, fire services, and 108 ambulance for immediate rescue operations.
Authorities, including Urban Development Minister Dr Krushnachandra Mahapatra, Baripada MLA Prakash Soren, and Additional District Magistrate, visited the hospital to assess the situation and meet the injured labourers.
