Health / Odisha Reports Two Fresh COVID-19 Cases, Total Infections Rise to Three

Bhubaneswar, July 23: Odisha has reported two fresh cases of COVID-19, taking the total number of infections in the state to three. All the cases have been detected in Ganjam district, officials said on Thursday.

Director of Public Health, Dr. Rabindranath Mishra, said the two newly detected patients are in home isolation and remain stable. The third case, a woman admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur, is also stable though she suffers from diabetes, hypertension, and cardiac complications.

Dr. Mishra urged people not to panic, stressing that the virus has weakened over time and now resembles a common influenza-like illness. “It has become a common influenza-like disease, and the virus has become weak,” he said.

Health and Family Welfare Department Special Secretary Santosh Mishra visited MKCG Hospital on Wednesday to review the treatment facilities and patient care. Officials said the State government is closely monitoring the situation in Ganjam and has directed local health authorities to ensure strict adherence to isolation protocols.

The detection of new cases comes amid heightened surveillance in southern Odisha, where health teams are conducting contact tracing and awareness drives. Authorities reiterated that precautionary measures such as mask-wearing, hand hygiene, and social distancing remain crucial to prevent further spread.

With the state reporting only three cases so far, officials expressed confidence in containing the outbreak swiftly. The government has assured that adequate medical infrastructure and monitoring mechanisms are in place to deal with any rise in infections.
