Bhubaneswar, Jun 1: Odisha has reported its first COVID-19 fatality as an 85-year-old woman from Bhubaneswar succumbed to the virus.

The deceased had multiple underlying health conditions, which exacerbated the impact of the infection. With this, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state stands at 11.

The tally of COVID-19 cases in the state increased after 3 more individuals have tested positive on Sunday. All infected individuals are currently under home isolation.

Meanwhile, the coronavirus situation continues to escalate nationwide, with the total infections surpassing 3,000. Several states, including Delhi, Kerala, Karnataka, and Uttar Pradesh, have reported multiple fatalities due to the virus. In these states, four individuals have lost their lives to COVID-19.

The active cases across the country have now reached 3,395, with Kerala leading the tally at 1,336 cases. Delhi has reported 375 cases, Gujarat stands at 265, Karnataka has recorded 234 infections, West Bengal reports 205, Tamil Nadu has 185 cases, and Uttar Pradesh has confirmed 117 COVID-positive cases.

Authorities urge citizens to follow strict health protocols, including social distancing and hygiene measures, to curb the spread of the virus. Medical experts continue to monitor the situation as containment strategies are implemented across various affected regions.
