Odisha Records 18 Road Accident Deaths Per Day In 2025, Minister Tells Assembly

Bhubaneswar, Mar 26: Odisha recorded an average of 18 deaths per day in road accidents in 2025, Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhusan Jena informed the Assembly on Thursday.

In a written reply to BJP MLA Tankadhar Tripathy, the minister said the daily average death toll rose from 17 in 2024 to 18 in 2025.

Over 12,000 Deaths in Two Years
A total of 12,625 people were killed and 21,576 injured in 25,157 road accidents reported across Odisha in 2024 and 2025.

In 2024, 6,142 people died and 10,770 were injured in 12,375 accidents.

The figures increased in 2025, with 6,483 deaths and 10,806 injuries reported in 12,782 accidents across the state.

The average number of injured persons per day remained at 30 during both years, the minister said.

MoU Signed With IIT Madras
Jena said the state government signed a memorandum of understanding with Indian Institute of Technology Madras on December 23, 2024, to collaborate on public awareness initiatives related to road safety.

Under the agreement, the government has released Rs 4.52 crore to the institute in phases so far, he added.

No LPG Crisis in Odisha

Odisha has no shortage of LPG, petrol or diesel, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra said today, assuring residents of adequate availability of fuel across the state.

Patra said sufficient LPG stocks are in place and there are no restrictions on the private sector supplying up to 50% of the cooking gas required by hotels.

His statement comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East and concerns over possible disruptions in fuel supplies.
