Bhubaneswar, Mar 24: Rains are likely to continue for another 24 hours across districts in Odisha. The impact will be particularly severe in coastal Odisha, according to the prediction of the India Meteorological Department.

Light to moderate rain or thundershowers is likely to occur in the next 24 hours, it said. The IMD has issued a yellow alert of extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Ganjam, Gajapati, Nayagar, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsingpur, Cuttack, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balaswar, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Jajpur.

The Meteorological Department has also predicted a rise in temperature. The day temperature is likely to rise by 4-5 degrees Celsius in the next four to five days. There will also be an increase in nighttime temperatures. After a few days, the summer will have its impact. Temperature continued to be high in western Odisha.

It has been a hot summer since mid-March. A few days ago, Boudh and Jharsuguda had broken country-wide records with continuous rise in mercury. Not only these two places, many places in western Odisha were 5-7 degrees above normal.

Jharsuguda was the hottest place in the country at 41.8 degrees Celsius on March 14 and Boudh was the hottest at 42.5 degrees Celsius on March 15.
