Bhadrak, July 2: Tension erupted at Bhandaripokhari Government High School in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Wednesday after some students raised serious concerns over the quality of food served under the Midday Meal Scheme.
According to reports, students alleged that the rice used in their meals was infested with insects and worms, and the overall food quality was substandard.
The meals at the school have been prepared and distributed for years by a local self-help group. However, in recent days, students have complained that the rice is contaminated, and other food items are also of poor quality. The issue came to light when students refused to eat the meal and brought the matter to the attention of school authorities.

✨Following the complaints, the school headmaster conducted a surprise inspection during meal preparation and confirmed the presence of insects in the rice. He immediately informed the Block Education Officer (BEO) about the situation. Subsequently, the Additional Block Education Officer visited the school to assess the food quality and acknowledged the students’ grievances.
The official admitted that there were significant lapses in food preparation and hygiene. She reportedly assured the students that the matter would be reported to higher authorities for further action.
This incident has sparked widespread concern among parents and the local community, who are demanding strict action against those responsible and a thorough review of food safety protocols in schools.
