Berhampur, Apr 29: A Pakistani woman, Rahima Ara (50), who has been living in Berhampur for over 25 years, has been issued a notice by the police to leave India, following central government directives regarding foreign nationals amid ongoing diplomatic tensions.
Rahima, who resides in Military Line, Bad Masjid Sahi, initially moved to India after marrying an Indian citizen. Following her husband's death years ago, she continued to live in Odisha with her three daughters, two of whom are married while the youngest stays with her. Her family members, including her daughter and son-in-law, are reportedly employed in private companies.
Local authorities began collecting information about Pakistani nationals residing in Berhampur, and as part of the procedure, Rahima was issued a formal notice. Police officials are currently reviewing the validity of her visa and residential documents to determine her legal status and future course of action.
Despite the uncertainty, Rahima has not publicly commented on the situation. Meanwhile, concerns over her departure have surfaced, as she has spent a significant portion of her life in India and has familial ties in the country.
