Jagatsinghpur, Jul 14: In a major crackdown, police in Jagatsinghpur district of Odisha have busted a sex racket operating in the Krushnanandapur area under Tirtol police limits.
Acting on a tip-off from local villagers, police arrested four men and one woman allegedly involved in the illegal activity.
According to sources, the racket was being run from a secluded room near the Hanuman Temple on the banks of the Paika river in Mattagajapur. Villagers grew suspicious after noticing unusual activity in the area and spotted a man and woman in a compromising position late at night. They immediately informed Krushnanandapur police.
A team led by SI Sridhar Nayak, Sujit Das, and woman constable N. Tudu reached the spot and detained the individuals. The arrested include Kshira Bhoi (39) from Tobedar village in Riamal, Deogarh district; Rabindra Mallick (42), son of Ramesh Mallik from Mattagajapur; Bishwajit Mallick (24), son of Bijay Mallick from Paikakula; Debendra Mallick (26), son of Sudarshan Mallick; and Badal Mallick (20), son of Avani Mallick from Manpur village.

Jagatsinghpur district headquarters IIC Manorama Mallick registered a case and produced the accused in Tirtol JMFC court. As their bail plea was rejected, all five were sent to Alipingal jail.
Authorities have assured further investigation to uncover any wider network linked to the racket.
