Cuttack, Feb 25: Odisha Vigilance officials apprehended an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Odisha Police on Sunday for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 2,000 bribe from a complainant threatening to entangle his cousin in a case.
The accused ASI, identified as Bijaya Kumar Bhanja, is currently posted at Niali police station in Cuttack district.
According to the Vigilance sources, the accused ASI had called the complainant on Saturday and asked him to pay the demanded bribe amount. Finding no other way, the complainant reported the matter to the Vigilance Authority.
Accordingly, the Vigilance officials laid a trap and nabbed Bhanja today while accepting the demanded bribe from the complainant. The entire bribe money was recovered from Bhanja and seized.

✨Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations associated with the ASI on charges of amassing disproportionate assets.
A case under section 7 of PC Amendment Act, 2018 has been registered against the accused ASI at the Cuttack Vigilance police station and further investigation is underway, officials said.
