Argus News - Odisha Pays Tribute to Baji Rout with ₹120 Cr Sports Complex and Welfare Scheme

Dhenkanal, Oct 5: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi paid tribute to India’s youngest martyr, Baji Rout, during his birth centenary celebrations held at his birthplace, Nilakanthapur in Dhenkanal.

The Chief Minister announced a series of initiatives to honour Baji Rout’s legacy, including naming a road in Bhubaneswar after him and launching a welfare scheme in his name.

A major highlight of the event was the foundation stone laying for the ₹120 crore Baji Rout Sports Complex in Dhenkanal. The complex is envisioned as a hub for youth development and sports excellence, aiming to inspire future generations through the courage and sacrifice of Baji Rout, who laid down his life at the age of 12 resisting British forces.

CM Majhi emphasized that commemorations of Odisha’s great personalities will now be held in their native villages rather than in the capital. He declared Baji Rout’s village as an “Ideal Village” and pledged developmental work to uplift the region.

In a significant economic boost, CM Majhi announced the launch of industrial projects worth over ₹50,000 crore in Dhenkanal, including ₹30,000 crore dedicated to solar energy initiatives. These projects are expected to generate over 26,400 direct and indirect employment opportunities, positioning Dhenkanal as a leading solar-powered district in Odisha.

The event also featured the unveiling of a book titled Dhenkanal Ganasangrama ra Amara Sahid Baji Rout, published by the Sahitya Akademi, along with a photo exhibition and distribution of the book across schools in the district.

Family members of Baji Rout and other freedom fighters from the Prajamandal movement were felicitated. Ministers Krushna Chandra Patra and Suryabanshi Suraj paid homage to Baji Rout’s bravery and sacrifice, reinforcing his role as a symbol of youth courage and patriotism.
