Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: Odia film star Uttam Mohanty passed away at the age of 66 on Thursday evening in New Delhi. His funeral took place on Friday afternoon at Satyanagar crematorium, where many fans and important people paid their respects. Uttam Mohanty was a legendary actor who had a huge impact on the film industry in Odisha. His last rites were done with full state honours, showing how much respect he earned. Odisha's Chief Minister also paid his tribute to him. He is survived by his wife, son (actor Babushaan Mohanty), daughter-in-law, and grandson.


Uttam Mohanty, often called Odisha's first superstar, had a long and successful career that lasted over 40 years. He acted in more than 130 Odia films, along with some Bengali and Hindi movies. Known for his great acting skills and strong screen presence, he became a favorite among fans of all ages. Uttam's career started in 1977 with the movie Abhiman, and he gained fame for his roles in films like Jajabara, Chilika Teerey, Danda Balunga, and Kie Jite Kie Haare. He was also the youngest to receive the prestigious Jayadev Samman, Odisha's highest award for artists.


Many people, including political leaders, film industry members, and fans, shared their condolences after Uttam Mohanty's death. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said his passing has left a big gap in Ollywood, and he offered his sympathy to his family. BJP Vice President Baijyant Panda, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and others also paid their respects to the late actor.

Uttam Mohanty, born on December 23, 1958, developed a love for acting early in life. He married his co-star, Aparajita Priyadarshini, in 1987, and they became a popular couple in the Ollywood film industry. Known for his humility and grace, Mohanty earned the admiration of his fans.
