Odisha: Newborn Trapped In Abandoned Borewell Rescued

Sambalpur, Dec 12: A newborn girl child, who was trapped in an abandoned borewell in Odisha's Sambalpur district, was rescued on Tuesday evening after an eight-hour-long operation, officials said.
The incident took place at Laripali village under the Rengali police limits of Sambalpur district.
The child has been taken to the Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla in an ambulance for her health Check-up.
According to sources, the villagers first heard the cries of the baby, who was found stuck inside a 20 ft borewell at around 1 PM today and subsequently alerted the authorities.
After getting information, the district administration swung into action and started an operation to rescue the infant. Local Fire service personnel, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force personnel, police and health officials rushed to the spot and commenced the rescue operation at around 2 PM.
Three JCB machines were engaged in the rescue operation.

✨Earlier in the day, a Special Optical Fibre and camera reached Jharsuguda by plane, to use in the rescue work to save the infant stuck in an abandoned borewell.

It was not clear how the child got into the well. Locals suspect that someone might have dumped the baby in the abandoned borewell.
The baby, reportedly a newborn, has no claimant, the police said.
