Berhampur, Nov 20: Surada MLA Nilamani Bisoyi paid a surprise visit to the Community Health Centre in Gobara, Ganjam district, on Thursday and found that patients were being treated by health workers and a pharmacist instead of a doctor.
According to the BJP MLA, over a hundred patients were waiting in line as health workers attended to them while the doctor was nowhere to be found. The MLA later located the doctor at his official quarters, where he was allegedly found intoxicated and resting. When questioned, the doctor claimed he was on leave due to health issues.
The irregularities came to light during the MLA’s sudden inspection, which also revealed forged signatures of several public representatives, including the MLA’s, in the visitor register of the medical facility.

Government authorities have been strengthening community health centres and ensuring free services for patients. However, growing complaints against a few doctors who allegedly neglect their duty have raised public dissatisfaction.
After witnessing the situation firsthand, the MLA demanded action against the doctor within seven days.
Upon receiving the report, the Superintendent of Bhanjanagar Sub-Divisional Hospital, Sitanshu Shekhar Satapathy, reached the CHC and expressed shock over the situation. He said he has informed higher authorities about the incident.
