Odisha: Man Trampled To Death By Elephant In Cuttack Village

Cuttack, Apr 9: A man was trampled to death by a wild elephant at Gayalabanka village in Banki area near Chandaka-Dampara wildlife sanctuary in Odisha's Cuttack district on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Ranjan Kumar Sahu, a resident of Gayalabanka village under Banki police station limits in the district.

According to sources, Sahu was attacked by the wild elephant when he came out from his house at around 11.30 pm last night.

Hearing Sahu's screams, his family members and neighbours rushed to the spot and found him dead. The elephant was seen roaming near the victim, sources said.

The villagers alerted the Bhogipur Forest office about the incident but the officials didn't reach the village till the report was filed.

Meanwhile, the villagers staged a demonstration in the village, demanding adequate compensation for the next of kin of the deceased person.
