Bhubaneswar, Oct. 1: Political leaders across party lines in Odisha on Thursday hailed Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar for his act of bravery in thwarting his co-pilot's attempt to crash a flydubai flight, describing his actions as a remarkable example of courage, sacrifice and devotion to duty.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, and Sambalpur MP and former Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan took to social media to commend the pilot's courage after reports emerged that he had sustained serious injuries while preventing a potentially catastrophic incident onboard.

In a message posted on X, CM Majhi said Captain Machchhar's extraordinary courage and commitment to duty were deeply inspiring. He said the pilot prioritised the safety of passengers despite suffering serious injuries and described his actions as a reflection of the Bharatiya ethos of "Seva Paramo Dharma". In his post, Patnaik said Captain Machchhar displayed remarkable courage and swift action to save the lives of passengers onboard the aircraft. Despite being gravely injured, he fought off his co-pilot to avert disaster, he said, adding that the nation was proud of his bravery and humanity.
