Bhubaneswar, Apr 21: In a major step towards digital education, classes will continue under the name of the Summer Learning Program. Odisha’s Samagra Shiksha has announced the launch of this programme to ensure students remain connected to academics during the summer vacation. The initiative will cover children from kindergarten up to Class 8 across all government schools in the state. All the students upto Class 8 will participate in this program starting from the current academic year. Children will practice lessons using audio-visual content provided through the initiative.
According to official guidelines, district education officers have been instructed to implement the programme uniformly. Schools will create WhatsApp groups involving parents and teachers to facilitate the distribution of lessons and assignments. Existing groups will be renamed and reorganized by April 25 to align with the program’s requirements.
The Summer Learning Program aims to provide structured learning even during holidays. Students will receive audio-video lessons and assignments tailored to their grade levels. The program is designed to keep children engaged, prevent learning gaps, and encourage parental involvement in guiding students at home.
Assignments have been prepared grade-wise and subject-wise. For kindergarten students, lessons will be shared once a week. For Classes 1 to 3, lessons will be provided twice a week, while Classes 4 to 8 will receive lessons three times a week. Subjects covered include Odia, Mathematics, and Environmental Science for Classes 1 to 3; Odia, Mathematics, Environmental Science, and English for Classes 4 and 5; and Odia, Mathematics, Environmental Science, Social Science, Science, and English for Classes 6 to 8.
Officials emphasized that the program is not only about academic continuity but also about making learning interactive and accessible. By using WhatsApp, a widely available platform, the initiative ensures that even families in rural areas can participate effectively.
