Key Points

Odisha has installed 246 AI-based grain analysers across 66 RMCs to ensure transparent paddy procurement. The technology will reduce human error in FAQ checks, curb arbitrary practices, and guarantee fair value for farmers’ produce, with outsourced inspectors strengthening monitoring.

Bhubaneswar, Sep 23: Odisha is set to introduce AI-based grain analysers to bring transparency and efficiency in paddy procurement. According to a written reply by Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta in the Assembly today, the technology will reduce human error in FAQ (Fair Average Quality) checks, curb arbitrary practices by millers, and ensure farmers receive fair value for their produce.

A total of 246 AI grain analysers have been supplied across 66 Regulated Market Committees (RMCs) in 30 districts. These devices will scientifically assess paddy quality, making the procurement process faster and more objective.

District-Wise Deployment

The highest number of machines has been installed in Bargarh district, where 42 analysers have been distributed across Atabira, Bargarh, and Padmapur RMCs. Sambalpur’s three RMCs have received 19 machines, Sonepur’s two RMCs have been allotted 22, while Kalahandi’s RMCs together have been provided 27 analysers.

Strengthening Monitoring

To further streamline procurement, quality inspectors have been engaged on an outsourced basis. Official data shows 1,499 inspectors were deployed during KMS 2024–25, while 1,368 inspectors are engaged for KMS 2025–26. These personnel, along with AI analysers, are expected to strengthen monitoring at procurement centres.

The government stated that the initiative aims to make paddy procurement more scientific, transparent, and farmer-friendly. By reducing manual errors and subjective assessments, the analysers will help eliminate disputes over quality, minimize rejection, and ensure farmers are not harassed during procurement.

Officials emphasized that the move will not only improve quality determination but also enhance trust in the procurement system, ensuring farmers get the rightful price for their produce.
