Bhubaneswar, May 17: Bhubaneswar, May 17: In a bid to encourage fitness, healthy lifestyles, and eco‑friendly transport, the Odisha government’s Sports and Youth Services Department organized a massive cycle rally ‘Sundays on Cycle’ today. The event, part of the nationwide Fit India campaign, has been running in Odisha since 2024 and has steadily grown into a popular weekly initiative.

The rally was flagged off by Minister Surjyabanshi Suraj, who serves as the state’s Higher Education, Sports and Youth Services, and Odia Language, Literature and Culture Minister. Waving the green flag at Vaibhav Wellness Centre Square, he inaugurated the event and later joined participants in cycling along the designated route. Senior BJP leader Jagannath Pradhan also participated, riding alongside the minister and other citizens.

The route for the rally covered key city landmarks, beginning at Vaibhav Wellness Centre Square, passing through Utkal Hospital and Pandit Raghunath Murmu Park, before returning to the starting point. The event drew hundreds of enthusiastic youth, fitness lovers, and local residents, who pedaled together in a spirited show of community participation.

Speaking at the event, Minister Surjyabanshi Suraj emphasized the importance of such initiatives in building a healthier and more connected society. “Since its launch in 2024, this program has become a major platform to bring people together. Cycling every Sunday not only keeps the body fit but also protects the environment and strengthens social bonds,” he said.

Jagannath Pradhan echoed similar sentiments, praising the government’s efforts to integrate fitness with environmental awareness. He noted that cycling is a sustainable mode of transport that reduces pollution and promotes healthier urban living.

The ‘Sundays on Cycle’ initiative has quickly become a symbol of Odisha’s commitment to fitness and sustainability. By encouraging citizens to adopt cycling as a weekly routine, the program aims to reduce carbon emissions, foster community spirit, and inspire youth to embrace active lifestyles.
