Balangir, Jun 17: Patnagarh hospital in Balangir district witnessed chaos after the death of a newborn allegedly due to medical negligence.
According to reports, on Tuesday evening, Sarat Meher of Chingerbandh village brought his wife to the hospital following labour pains. With no doctor available, the duty nurse attended to the patient. Despite repeated requests from the family to shift her to Balangir, the nurse insisted the delivery could be managed locally.
After a night of severe pain, the woman delivered a stillborn baby early Wednesday morning. The family accused doctors of negligence, claiming the absence of medical supervision led to the tragedy. Police from Patnagarh station reached the hospital to control the situation.

However, the SDMO later stated that the newborn had severe complications in the womb, which may have caused the death.

✨Meanwhile, in Malkangiri district headquarters hospital, tension erupted after the death of a pregnant woman named Bandana Mandal from MV21 village.
Family members alleged she was bitten by a poisonous snake while sleeping at home and was rushed to the hospital. Doctors treated her and discharged her, but her condition worsened the next morning.
She was brought back to the hospital, where she was declared dead. Relatives accused doctors of failing to provide proper treatment, sparking anger among locals. Reports suggest that the attending doctor was attacked by agitated family members.
The doctor maintained that appropriate treatment had been given, though the exact cause of death remains unclear.
Authorities have assured investigations into the allegations
while police continue to maintain order at the hospitals.
