Deogarh, May 6: A man was allegedly run over by a Hyva truck in a suspected revenge killing on National Highway-49 near Chatibarghat village under Tileibani police outpost in Odisha's Deogarh district, police said Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Kartik Oraon from Mahendrapur village under Reamal police station limits.
According to a complaint lodged by Kartik's wife Geeta Minz, she and her husband had come to Tileibani market on Tuesday when an argument broke out between Kartik and the accused Hyva driver Sushil Kishan -- a resident of Asanlada village -- over an undisclosed issue.
Police said the couple was returning home on their scooter in the afternoon when it developed a puncture near Chatibarghat. While they were standing by the roadside, the accused allegedly followed them to the spot and again engaged in a heated exchange with Kartik. Both reportedly issued threats to each other before the situation escalated.
Moments later, while Geeta had stepped aside towards the scooter, the accused allegedly drove the Hyva truck into Kartik, running him over before fleeing the scene.
Geeta immediately alerted relatives and shifted her critically injured husband to the district headquarters hospital with the help of an ambulance. However, doctors declared him dead.

Based on the complaint, Deogarh police registered a murder case and launched an investigation.
The Inspector-in-Charge of Deogarh Police Station Sabyasachi Satapathy said, “A woman named Geeta Minz lodged an FIR regarding the incident involving her husband Kartik Oraon and the Hyva truck driver Sushil Kishan on Tuesday night. The vehicle has been seized and the accused was detained.”
He further added that both the accused and the deceased had prior enmity and had argued over the phone earlier in the day, before another confrontation at the market.
The body was handed over to the family after the post-mortem, while a scientific team reached the spot to carry out further investigation.
