Bhubaneswar, Feb 20: The Odisha Government has decided to repair hundreds of multi-purpose shelters for cyclone and flood, said Suresh Pujari, Minister of Revenue & Disaster Management.
Responding to a question from BJD MLA Sarada Jena during the Question Hour at the Budget session of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, Pujari said that the State Govt has decided to repair as many as 812 shelters this year.
“An amount of Rs 6 lakh has been earmarked for the renovation of each shelter home. The government will spend Rs 48.72 crore for this purpose,” stated the Disaster Management Minister.
Speaking about the development in this regard, Pujari said that work on many cyclone shelters has also started.

Currently, there are 909 flood and cyclone shelters in the state. These include 600 multi-purpose cyclone shelters and 309 multi-purpose flood shelters.
