Odisha Govt To Build World-Class Jagannath Culture Complex In Puri

Key Points

Odisha Govt to build museum, library, and research centre in Puri to promote Jagannath culture.

Complex to include 300-seat auditorium, daily light and sound shows, and open-air cultural stage.

Bhubaneswar, July 4: In a landmark move to preserve and promote the spiritual heritage of Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Friday announced the establishment of a world-class museum, library, and research centre in Puri dedicated to Jagannath culture and literature.

Speaking at a press conference here, CM Majhi emphasized that the new complex will serve as a hub for the study, documentation, and dissemination of the rich traditions surrounding Lord Jagannath. “For decades, little has been done to educate visitors about the depth of Jagannath culture. This centre will change that,” he said.

The integrated campus will feature a 300-seat auditorium designed to host daily light and sound shows that narrate the mythology and history of the Jagannath Temple. A large open-air stage will also be constructed to showcase traditional Odissi dance, music, and other cultural performances, offering tourists and devotees immersive experience.

The museum will exhibit the temple’s architectural history, the crafting of wooden deities, and legendary events such as Kalinga’s victory in Kanchi. These stories will be brought to life through paintings, miniature sculptures, and interactive displays. The library will house rare manuscripts and books on Jagannath and Odia culture, with e-library access in multiple languages including Odia, Hindi, English, and Bengali.

CM Majhi noted that the initiative is part of a broader vision to transform Puri into a global spiritual and cultural destination. “This is not just infrastructure—it’s a tribute to our legacy,” he added.
