Govt Readiness / Odisha Govt on High Alert as Depression Likely, Says Suresh Pujari

Bhubaneswar, Jul 27: Odisha Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari has stated that the low-pressure system forming over the region may intensify into a depression.

The state government is closely monitoring its movement. The Meteorological Department has already issued red alerts for some districts, while others are under orange and yellow warnings. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several parts of the state.

In view of the situation, a crucial meeting chaired by the minister will be held at Lok Seva Bhawan with the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC), regional IMD director, and senior officials. District collectors have been advised to remain on high alert. The minister assured that the government will take further steps after assessing the situation post-meeting.

On Panchayat Elections

On the political front, Pujari dismissed Congress’s chances in the upcoming panchayat elections, stating, “There is no possibility for Congress in Odisha. Even in western Odisha, where they are focusing, the party will decline further in six months.”

He added that while he wished the Congress well, he believed the party lacked momentum. He also spoke warmly about his long-time friend Bhakta Charan Das, calling him “a right man in the right place,” while acknowledging the democratic right of any party to protest or mobilize.

Lauds Jyotirmayee

Suresh Pujari expressed pride over Jyotirmayee Nayak from Balasore, who recently won Indian Idol Season 16. He said her achievement is not only a matter of pride for Balasore and Odisha but for the entire nation. He hoped she continues to shine and bring more recognition through her music.
