Bhubaneswar, June 25: The Odisha state government is observing ‘Constitution Murder Day’ today, marking the 50th anniversary of the imposition of Emergency in India on June 25, 1975.


In remembrance of what is considered by many as a dark chapter in the nation's democratic journey, the State has directed all universities and colleges under the Higher Education Department to commemorate the day with special awareness events.


Institutions across the State will organize seminars, debates, awareness rallies, street plays, and workshops focused on the values enshrined in the Constitution and the importance of safeguarding them. The central theme revolves around promoting awareness among students and faculty about constitutional morality and democratic integrity.


A state-level event will be held at the Rail Auditorium in Bhubaneswar, where political science students will actively participate in discussions highlighting the impact of the Emergency on fundamental rights and civil liberties.
