Bhubaneswar, June 17: In response to the widespread outbreak of diarrhea, the Odisha government has ramped up food and water safety inspections across multiple districts. The worst-hit region, Jajpur, has seen over 200 locations targeted by food safety teams and central inspection units.
Authorities have conducted raids on various packaged water and soft drink manufacturing units to ensure hygiene standards are met.
The Food Safety Department has taken stringent action by sealing five packaged drinking water factories and 11 hotels due to concerns over sanitation and contamination. On Monday, all eateries, roadside dhabas, fast food stalls, ice cream shops, packaged water plants, and meat shops in Dharmasala block of Jajpur were ordered to close. Officials have warned that any unauthorized reopening of businesses will lead to legal penalties.
In light of growing health concerns, Nabarangpur district has also heightened surveillance. The food safety teams have conducted inspections in Umerkote, reviewing the quality of food and water supplies while imposing fines on violators.
