Bhubaneswar, Aug 13: In a proactive move to ensure wider farmer participation, the Odisha government has extended the deadline for registration under the 2025–26 Kharif paddy procurement scheme until August 22, officials said on Wednesday.
The decision was taken following a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, where officials reported an overwhelming response from cultivators despite a delayed start.
The registration process, which began on July 19, was initially set to conclude on August 20, but will now continue until August 22. As of now, more than 11.5 lakh farmers have enrolled, surpassing expectations and reflecting growing confidence in the state’s procurement system.
To make the process more inclusive and farmer-friendly, the government has introduced Self-Declaration Forms and Aadhaar-based e-KYC, reducing the need for complex documentation. Additionally, biometric verification will be implemented during paddy sales to enhance transparency and accountability.

Farmers can register through various local bodies including Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies (PACS), LAMPS, Women Self-Help Groups, and Water Users’ Associations. These decentralized channels aim to make registration accessible even in remote areas.
At a press briefing held at his official residence, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra announced the extension and reiterated the government’s commitment to farmer welfare. He was joined by several MLAs including Irashish Acharya, Sanat Kumar Gadtia, Nihar Ranjan Mahananda, and Ashwini Sarangi.
The Kharif paddy procurement season is scheduled to begin on November 1, 2025, and will continue until March 31, 2026. Officials expect the final registration numbers to exceed last year’s figures, ensuring a robust and inclusive procurement cycle that supports rural livelihoods and food security.
