Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi disbursed Rs 838 crore to 41.68 lakh farmers as fourth instalment under CM-Kisan Yojana on Akshaya Tritiya.
Cuttack, Apr 20: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday disbursed over Rs 838 crore to 41.68 lakh farmers as the fourth instalment under the CM-Kisan Yojana during the state-level Krushak Divas 2026 programme held at the Central Rice Research Institute.

Accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo, who also holds the Agriculture and Farmer Empowerment portfolio, the Chief Minister said each beneficiary received Rs 2,000 directly into their bank accounts to support the upcoming Kharif crop season.

Of the total 41,68,582 beneficiaries, 41,049 are landless farmers and 3,292 belong to tribal communities, while the remaining 41,24,241 are small and marginal farmers. “The financial assistance given under CM-Kisan today will help farmers procure seeds and fertilisers,” Majhi said.

The state observes Krushak Divas on the occasion of Akshaya Tritiya, which marks the beginning of the paddy sowing season. On the occasion, both Majhi and Singh Deo performed the traditional Akhi Muthi Anukula ritual, symbolically initiating agricultural activities.

Under the CM-Kisan scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 4,000 annually in two instalments—one during Akshaya Tritiya and another during Nuakhai. Combined with Rs 6,000 under PM-Kisan, farmers in Odisha receive a total of Rs 10,000 per year, the Chief Minister informed.

In a social media post, Majhi stated, “Our government remains steadfastly committed to the holistic prosperity of the state’s annadata and to energising the agricultural economy.”

Highlighting growth trends, he added that Odisha’s agriculture sector has recorded a growth rate of 5.3 per cent, surpassing the national average of 4.4 per cent, and noted that the state is the second-largest rice producer in the country.

Akshaya Tritiya holds deep cultural and agrarian significance in Odisha, where farmers perform the Akhi Muthi ritual by offering selected seeds and symbolically sowing them after prayers for a successful harvest.
