Odisha government intensifies enforcement to curb black marketing statewide.

Jharsuguda, Sep 10: In a decisive move against fertilizer black marketing, the Odisha government has launched enforcement action following reports of illegal urea sales in Kirmira, Jharsuguda district.

Acting on complaints from local farmers, a departmental team conducted a late-night raid and seized 26 bags of urea being sold unlawfully.

The raid was led by the District Agriculture Officer, Block Agriculture Officer, and Fertilizer Inspector, who visited the concerned Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS). Investigations revealed that the society’s secretary was directly involved in the unauthorized sale of subsidized fertilizer. An FIR has been lodged against the accused in the presence of the local Tahsildar.

This crackdown is part of a broader state-wide enforcement campaign to curb black marketing of fertilizers, especially urea, which has seen rising demand during the Kharif season. The Agriculture Department has reiterated its commitment to ensuring fair access to fertilizers for farmers at government-approved prices.

Deputy Chief Minister KV Singh Deo recently warned that anyone caught selling fake or diverted fertilizers would face strict legal consequences, including imprisonment. The government has also instructed district collectors to monitor fertilizer distribution closely and take immediate action against violators.

The incident in Kirmira highlights the growing concern over supply-chain mismanagement and corruption in fertilizer distribution. With farmers depending heavily on timely access to urea, such illegal practices threaten agricultural productivity and farmer livelihoods.

The Odisha government has assured that enforcement efforts will continue across the state to protect farmers’ interests and maintain transparency in the agricultural supply system.
