Bhubaneswar, Jan 24: Odisha Governor has called upon the youth of the State to embrace fisheries and animal husbandry as modern, technology-driven sectors that can serve as profitable avenues for entrepreneurship and innovation, officials said on Saturday.

Speaking at the closing ceremony of the State-level Fisheries and Animal Resources Development Fair, Matsya-Pranee Samavesh Odisha-2026, held at Janata Maidan, here on Friday the Governor emphasised that these sectors were no longer confined to traditional practices but had evolved into dynamic industries offering opportunities in hatcheries, dairy units, poultry farms, feed production, processing units, pet care services and fisheries logistics.

Highlighting the role of fisheries and allied activities in ensuring food security and supporting rural livelihoods, Dr. Kambhampati said their growth was vital for Odisha’s overall development and aligned with the vision of Viksit Odisha, contributing to the larger national goal of Viksit Bharat.

The Governor commended both State and Central governments for introducing farmer-centric and fisher-friendly initiatives such as the Mukhyamantri Kamdhenu Yojana, Mukhyamantri Matsyajibi Kalyan Yojana, Prani Sampad Samrudhi Yojana, and national schemes including the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and the Rashtriya Gokul Mission. These programmes, he noted, have improved incomes and promoted scientific practices among farmers and fishers.

Odisha, with its long coastline, abundant water resources and hardworking farming communities, holds immense potential in these sectors, the Governor said. He added that the development of processing units, cold storage facilities and improved marketing infrastructure could generate employment and help the State emerge as a major hub for animal and fish products.

Reaffirming a collective resolve, Dr. Kambhampati expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between government, industry and youth would help build a resilient, prosperous and inclusive Odisha.
