Bhubaneswar, May 1: The Odisha government has set its sights on improving urban mobility by launching a metro rail project connecting Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. The initiative is expected to transform public transportation and connectivity between the twin cities.
Metro Project Expansion Plan
The proposed metro corridor will begin at Bhubaneswar Airport and it was supposed to extend to Trisulia. However, Odisha Housing and Urban Development Minister Krushnachandra Mohapatrasaid that the state government has decided to expand the project to Cuttack Bus Stand and SCB Medical College & Hospital. This alignment will provide efficient and modern commuting options, catering to daily travellers, students, and professionals.
A committee has been formed to study metro operations in different Indian cities, ensuring best practices and feasibility assessments. Additionally, a new Detailed Project Report (DPR) is being prepared, analysing infrastructure, ridership demand, and execution strategies.
