Sambalpur, July 17: Days after the arrest of the Principal and an Asst Professor of Fakir Mohan College in Balasore in connection with a harassment case, another incident has surfaced in Sambalpur. An Asst Professor from Gangadhar Meher University here was arrested today following allegations of sexual misconduct.
The accused, identified as Gopikant Suna, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Education of FM University, was taken into custody after a second-year BA BEd female student lodged a complaint at the Mahila Police Station here, accusing him of sexual exploitation under false promises of marriage.
According to police sources, the 20-year-old female student, currently residing in a rented house in Angulalane, Sambalpur, lodged a formal complaint at the Mahila Police Station on July 16.
The complaint accused Assistant Professor Gopikant Suna of engaging in a physical relationship with her under false promises of marriage and later refusing to honour those assurances.

✨The alleged incident took place at the accused’s official residence in Professor Colony, Budharaja, Sambalpur. The student, enrolled in the Integrated BA BEd program at GM University, claimed that the professor exploited her trust and emotionally manipulated her, sources said.
Following the complaint, Sambalpur Mahila Police swiftly acted and arrested the accused. He was subsequently forwarded to the Court for further legal proceedings.
The incident has sparked outrage among students and faculty, raising serious concerns about safety and ethics within educational institutions across the state.
