New Delhi/Bhubaneswaer, Nov 13: Odisha is set to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s energy future as the state gears up to host the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit (GELS) 2025 in Puri from December 5–7, 2025.


The announcement was made by the Energy Department of Odisha, with the event logo and official website launched today by Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy, Shripad Yesso Naik, alongside Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister, and Energy, Agriculture & Farmer Empowerment Minister, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo.

 

Theme and Focus

The Summit will be held under the theme “Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation”. The official website www.gelsodisha2025.com for the Summit was also launched. The theme for the Summit is “Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation.


These priorities emphasize ensuring sufficient and reliable power, balancing ecological and economic needs, and fostering innovation to accelerate India’s energy transition.

GELS 2025 will bring together Union and State Energy Ministers, policymakers, researchers, innovators, and industry leaders. International participation is expected from countries including Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Bhutan. Leading think tanks and experts such as Gareth Walsh and Pierre Noel from the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change will also join.

Key Discussions

The Summit will address India’s rising energy demand, reliability of supply, and sustainable growth. Contemporary topics like small modular nuclear plants, green hydrogen, and digital grid security will be discussed. Each session will conclude with actionable outcomes, including roadmaps and measurable goals, ensuring the event moves beyond dialogue to delivery.


Partnerships and Vision

The initiative is being organized in collaboration with the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) and IIT Kanpur. Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister Singh Deo highlighted that the Summit will create a platform for states to learn from one another, aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of cooperative federalism and Net Zero by 2070.


Union Minister Shripad Naik welcomed the initiative, noting that energy sufficiency is about resilience as much as demand. He emphasized that GELS will strengthen India’s commitment to an innovation-driven, sustainable energy future.


With Odisha at the helm, GELS 2025 is poised to become a landmark event in India’s energy journey, setting the stage for collaborative progress and global leadership.
