Odisha Gears Up for Future Challenges, Assures Food Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra

Key Points

Odisha government ensures readiness for all situations, including food security and infrastructure development.

Bhubaneswar, May 8: Odisha’s Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Minister, Krushna Chandra Patra, has assured that the state is fully prepared for any potential crisis, including geopolitical tensions.

Speaking on the government’s proactive measures, he emphasised that essential commodities like pulses, rice, and oil are stocked in sufficient quantities, ensuring no disruption in supply.

Patra reaffirmed that black market activities will not be tolerated, and strict monitoring of market conditions is in place to prevent hoarding and artificial scarcity.

His statement comes amid growing concerns over national security and economic stability, with the central government hinting at larger-scale operations beyond Operation Sindoor.

Regarding agricultural policies, the minister highlighted that registration for Rabi paddy procurement has been completed across 20 districts, an expansion from the previous 17 districts.

“A satellite survey will be conducted post-registration to ensure transparency in procurement,” said the Odisha Food Supplies Minister. He revealed that the purchase process will begin within a week, with farmers receiving payments within 48 hours directly into their accounts.

The government has set a target of 15 lakh metric tons of paddy procurement, with an initial phase aiming for 10 lakh metric tons. Patra assured that no unnecessary deductions will be made, and strict action will be taken against fraudulent millers.

In a major infrastructure announcement, Patra revealed plans for a Science City in Bhubaneswar, aligning with Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi’s vision for scientific and technological advancement in Odisha.

Inspired by Ahmedabad’s Science City, the project aims to boost research, education, and innovation. Additionally, science parks will be established in all districts, fostering a culture of scientific exploration.

With these initiatives, Odisha is positioning itself as a self-sufficient and forward-thinking state, ready to tackle future challenges with resilience.
