Angul, July 31: Former Revenue Inspector (RI) of Pallahara in Odisha’s Angul district, Sri Kumar Jena has been convicted by the Vigilance court here for accepting a bribe in connection with a land conversion enquiry, officials said on Thursday.


The court sentenced Jena to rigorous imprisonment for two years and imposed a monetary fine.


The case revealed that Jena had demanded and accepted illegal gratification from a complainant in exchange for submitting a favorable enquiry report for converting agricultural land to homestead land.

Jena was charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.


Meanwhile, the Odisha Vigilance also approached the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of Jena’s pension benefits, as per applicable service rules and legal provisions.
