Flood Fury / Odisha Floods: CM Majhi Assesses Ground Zero in Jajpur, Bhadrak

Bhubaneswar, Aug 17: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Monday visited ground zero in Jajpur and Bhadrak districts to assess the flood situation and interact with affected residents.
Accompanied by Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari, Cooperation Minister Pradeep Bal Samanta, Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj and Korei MLA, the Chief Minister began his tour at Kosalpur in Dasarathpur block of Jajpur before moving to Tarapada Panchayat.
During his visit, CM Majhi spoke directly with flood-hit villagers, assuring them of government support. Later, he inspected the relief centre at Orali Primary School in Bodak Panchayat of Bhadrak district and proceeded to Ishwarpur to meet displaced families.

Flood Situation in Jajpur
Heavy rainfall and rising waters of the Baitarani and Brahmani rivers have left over 140 villages marooned in Bari and Dasarathpur blocks.
In Bari, nearly 80 villages across 19 panchayats are submerged, while in Dasarathpur, more than 60 villages in 20 panchayats remain waterlogged. Schools in the district have been closed following orders from the Collector.

✨Floodwaters have entered villages with strong currents, damaging farmland and destroying paddy and vegetable crops. The administration has declared all government, private, and higher secondary schools closed in Jajpur district until further notice.
Bhadrak and Chandbali under Threat
Chandbali block is facing a second wave of floods, with over 30 villages across 10 panchayats inundated. Many areas are cut off from the outside world, with Kherang and Raranagar panchayats reporting severe conditions. Houses, roads, and farmland remain submerged.
In Anandpur, breaches in the ring road embankment have allowed Baitarani floodwaters to enter Ward No. 7 of the municipality. With upstream rainfall pushing river levels above danger marks, residents have been evacuated to Anandpur Girls’ High School.
Villagers in Fakirpur and surrounding areas spent the night reinforcing embankments with sandbags to prevent further breaches.
Authorities remain on high alert, with the Sub-Collector
confirming that all precautionary measures are in place to tackle the worsening
flood situation.
