Bhubaneswar, July 9: Odisha has achieved a major milestone in industrial development, securing the top spot in India for private capital investment in the first quarter of FY2025–26, officials said on Wednesday.

According to CMIE data, the state attracted Rs 1.4 lakh crore in new investments between April and June, accounting for over 40% of the national total.

Industries Minister Sampad Swain said that Odisha received ₹1.78 lakh crore in investment proposals over the past fiscal year, with ground-breaking ceremonies already held in Khordha, Gopalpur, and Jajpur. The government is actively working to operationalize proposals received during the Utkarsh Odisha – Make in Odisha Conclave 2025.

The surge in investment is attributed to proactive efforts by the BJP-led state government, including international outreach in Singapore and Dubai, and policy reforms that have made Odisha a preferred destination for industrialists.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s endorsement of Odisha as an ideal investment hub during the conclave further boosted investor confidence.

Odisha’s rich mineral resources, long coastline, and skilled workforce have long been underutilized. However, recent initiatives have reversed decades of stagnation, positioning the state as a key player in India’s economic growth.

Experts like senior journalist Akshay Sahu gave credit to the state’s investor-friendly policies for this transformation.

Despite past challenges, Odisha is now poised to become a national leader in industrialization, with strategic investments in sectors like petrochemicals, textiles, green energy, and IT. The state’s success story reflects a broader shift toward inclusive and sustainable development.
