Odisha DHSE Empowers English PGTs With 5-Day Training

Bhubaneswar, Sep 15: In a significant step toward enhancing teaching excellence, the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE), Odisha, inaugurated a five-day Capacity Building Workshop for Post Graduate Teachers (PGTs) in English at the SIRD&PR campus here on Monday. The initiative, organized in collaboration with Azim Premji University, aims to empower educators appointed in non-government aided higher secondary schools across the state.

A total of 50 English PGTs are participating in the workshop, which focuses on refining pedagogical skills, strengthening assessment practices, and aligning teaching methodologies with the National Curriculum Framework 2023. The program is part of a broader strategy to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) and elevate Odisha’s education standards to global benchmarks.

The inaugural session was attended by key dignitaries including Smt. Subhashree Nanda, Additional Secretary of the School and Mass Education Department, DHSE Director Smt. Niyati Patnaik, Joint Director Smt. Sasmita Mali, Deputy Directors Smt. C.H. Vijayalakshmi and Shri Jitendra Nayak. Faculty members from Azim Premji University, Sri Partha Sarathi Mishra and Ms. Jenny Alex, also graced the occasion.

Smt. Nanda emphasized the importance of empowering teachers as catalysts for change, urging them to focus on practical, skill-based learning. Director Patnaik announced that similar training programs will be rolled out statewide in phases, ensuring comprehensive coverage.

The workshop includes sessions on: Challenges in teaching English and setting language learning goals; Curriculum design and skill-based communication activities; and Competency-based evaluation and question paper analysis.


This initiative reflects Odisha’s commitment to nurturing a robust and future-ready education system, with teachers at its core.
