Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: Odisha Director General of Police (DGP) Vinaytosh Mishra on Saturday reviewed security arrangements and the law and order situation ahead of the student union elections scheduled for October 15.
Mishra chaired a high-level review meeting through video conferencing with district superintendents of police (SPs) and range inspectors general and deputy inspectors general of police (IGs/DIGs) from the DGP's camp office in Bhubaneswar.
The meeting focused on preventing violence on college campuses, maintaining law and order during the elections, ensuring a smooth polling process and preventing post-election violence.
DGP Stresses Preventive Measures
Mishra emphasised the need to prevent violence through advance precautions rather than responding only after an incident occurs.

He directed police officers to maintain regular communication with college authorities and closely monitor campuses and situations where tension could arise. He also instructed them to intervene promptly, whenever necessary, to prevent violence.

Police Deployment To Be Based On Assessment
The DGP advised officers to assess sensitive situations during the elections and deploy police personnel as required to maintain peace and order.
He also directed them to treat election-related tensions and disputes seriously and take prompt action in accordance with the law.
Senior Police Officers Attend Meeting
Director of Intelligence R.P. Koche, Additional Director General of Police (SAP) Rajesh Kumar and Additional Police Commissioner of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Narasingha Bhol attended the meeting.
All range IGs/DIGs and district SPs across Odisha also participated through video conferencing.
