Bhubaneswar, Dec 23: The Odisha government has issued notifications declaring 24 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) across 14 districts and announcing the creation of five new municipalities in three districts, in a move aimed at expanding urban administration in the state.
According to the notification issued on Monday, the newly declared NACs include Pallahara in Angul district, Simulia in Balasore, and Sohela in Bargarh. In Bhadrak district, Tihidi and Dhusuri have been notified as NACs. Cuttack district will get three new NACs — Salepur, Badamba and Narsinghpur — while Gandia has been declared an NAC in Dhenkanal district.
Jagannathprasad and Patrapur in Ganjam district have also been notified as NACs. Narla and Jaipatna in Kalahandi, Tangi in Khordha and Borigumma in Koraput have been brought under NAC administration.
Mayurbhanj district has the highest number of new NACs, with Betanati, Bangiriposi, Chitrada, Kaptipada and Rasagobindapur included in the list. In addition, Bisamkatak in Rayagada district, Bamra and Rengali in Sambalpur district, and Biramaharajpur in Subarnapur district have been declared NACs.
In a separate notification, the government declared Boudhgarh in Boudh district as a municipality. In Ganjam district, Bhanjanagar, Kabisuryanagar and Polasara have been upgraded to municipal status, while Karanjia in Mayurbhanj district has also been notified as a municipality.

Officials said the notifications would enable the extension of municipal governance and civic administration to the newly notified urban areas.
