Baripada, Aug 3: In a heartwarming display of honesty and humanity, a police constable from OSAP 5th Battalion has set an inspiring example by returning a lost bag containing valuables worth over ₹1.10 lakh.
On Sunday morning at around 4 AM, constable Satyaranjan Raut (No. 685) and a colleague were heading for tea when they noticed a bag lying near MPC Autonomous College Girls’ Hostel road.
Upon checking, they found ₹1,10,000 in cash, two mobile phones, a laptop, a pen drive, land records, and other important documents inside.

Instead of keeping the valuables, Raut immediately began efforts to trace the rightful owner. Using the name and address mentioned in the documents, he contacted Baripada Town and Sadar police stations.

✨His efforts led him to the bag’s owner, Dilip Kumar Behera of Takhatpur area, who had lost it while returning home in an auto-rickshaw after arriving from Kolkata by bus.
Behera, who was devastated after losing the bag, had already approached police and sought help through social media. His relief was immense when the bag was safely returned.
The handover took place in the presence of Minister of Housing and Urban Development Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, who praised Raut’s integrity and dedication.
This act of honesty has drawn widespread appreciation from the public, reinforcing faith in the police force. In a time often marked by self-interest, Raut’s gesture stands as a shining reminder that humanity and righteousness still thrive.
