Bhubaneswar, Apr 5: Ahed of the simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and Odisha Assembly, former vice presidents of Odisha unit of Congress, Rajat Choudhury and Biswabhusan Das along with their supporters joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) here on Friday.

The Congress leaders and their supporters joined the saffron party at party's State headquarters here in the presence BJP State president Manmohan Samal, party's Odisha election in-charge Vijaypal Singh Tomar, co-in-charge Lata Usendi, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi among other senior leaders.

While Rajat quit the grand old party on March 1, Biswabhusan resigned from the post and its primary membership earlier in the day. Rajat had earlier served as Pradesh Youth Congress president and also the general secretary of the state unit of the party.

Biswabhusan had contested the 2009 and 2019 elections from Kakatpur Assembly constituency on Congress ticket, but lost in both elections.

Odisha will vote in the Lok Sabha elections and Assembly polls, which are being held simultaneously, in four phases. The polling will be held on May 13, 20, 25 and June 1.
