Odisha CM To Felicitate India Men’s Hockey Team Tomorrow For Olympics Bronze

Bhubaneswar, Aug 20: Days after India men's hockey team clinched bronze medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi will felicitate the victorious team in Bhubaneswar tomorrow, informed the State's Sports Minister, Suryabanshi Suraj on Tuesday.
Speaking to media persons here, the Sports Minister said that the India men's hockey team will arrive in the State Capital at 12.30 PM. Then, the team is scheduled to take part in a road show from the Biju Patnaik Airport to the iconic Kalinga Stadium in the city, he added.
The roadshow will be followed by a felicitation ceremony at the Kalinga Stadium here in the afternoon, the Minister said.
Earlier, the Odisha Chief Minister announced a cash reward of Rs 15 lakh to each team member of the India men's hockey team and Rs 10 lakh for supporting staffers for winning the bronze medal at the Paris Olympics.
The Chief Minister also announced a special cash prize of Rs 4 crore for star hockey player Amit Rohidas, who hails from Odisha.
Earlier this month, a brace from captain Harmanpreet Singh and PR Sreejesh's saves secured a bronze medal for India at the Paris Olympics with a 2-1 victory over Spain at the Yves du Manoir Stadium.

Notably, the Odisha government has been sponsoring the national men’s and women’s hockey teams since 2018.
The previous government in Odisha had committed to support Hockey India till 2033. Continuing the State’s support, CM Majhi, immediately after assuming office as the new Chief Minister in June this year, extended the sponsorship of both the national hockey teams by another three years till 2036.
