Bhubaneswar, Feb 28: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday reviewed the expenditure of various departments at Lok Seva Bhawan and suggested that the total expenditure should be at least 85% by the end of the current financial year (2024-25).
In the financial year 2023-24, the total expenditure was 81% of the total budget.
The Chief Minister said that this year there were problems in expenditure due to elections, the new government taking charge and the entire budget being in September. In this regard, the expenditure of many departments has been satisfactory so far.
Advising the ministers, the Chief Minister said that the departmental ministers should immediately examine the expenditure proposals and make necessary approvals.
The Chief Minister also directed that the pending payments under various welfare schemes should also be released immediately as per the rules.
The CM further stated that programme expenditure and capital expenditure are the most important. This will generate employment and boost economic growth.
Odisha's capital expenditure is 6.1 percent of its Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP).
"Our goal is to increase economic activity in the agrarian economy as well as in other sectors. This requires extensive infrastructure development. Therefore, it is necessary to invest in this area. The people's government has prepared the people's budget" said the CM in the meeting.
During the meeting, it was also informed that the expenditure of the departments of Agriculture, Fisheries and Livestock, Health, Water Resources, Works, Disability and Social Justice, Supplies and Co-operatives is comparatively better. The Chief Minister also suggested other departments to increase the expenditure.
Among others Minister of Panchayati Raj and Drinking Water Rabi Narayan Naik, Minister of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Krushna Chandra Mahapatra, Minister of School and Mass Education, ST & SC Development, Minorities & Backward Classes Welfare Nityananda Gond, Minister of Commerce, Transport, Steel & Mine Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Minister of Fisheries & Animal Resources Development Department Gokulananda Mallik were present in the meeting.
