Odisha CM Inaugurates Medical College & Hospital In Phulbani As ₹750 Crore Development Wave Hits Kandhamal

Phulbani, Jun 7: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi inaugurated a 100-seat government medical college and a 650-bed hospital in Kandhamal's Phulbani, marking a milestone in the district’s healthcare sector.

The new facilities aim to provide quality medical education and strengthen healthcare access for surrounding regions.

The CM also launched ₹750 crore worth of development projects, including drinking water supply, road construction, health centres, education infrastructure, and tourism projects. This initiative promises improved civic amenities and economic opportunities for local communities.

Among these projects, five initiatives exceeding ₹655 crore have been inaugurated, while the foundation stones for five additional projects worth over ₹94 crore have been laid.

Highlighting healthcare reforms, CM Majhi emphasized the integration of Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana with Odisha’s Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana, ensuring free medical services for over 80% of the population in both government and private hospitals.

CM Majhi said that Odisha’s healthcare budget has reached a record ₹23,635 crore, underscoring the government's commitment to medical advancements.

Additionally, tourism development in Kandhamal received a boost, with ₹18 crore allocated for Daringbadi and ₹4.5 crore for Putudi Waterfalls.

The CM reaffirmed his vision for a prosperous Odisha by 2036 and a developed India by 2047, aiming for holistic growth in healthcare, education, industry, and infrastructure.


The event was graced by Health Minister Dr Mukesh Mahaling, Kandhamal MP Sukanta Kumar Panigrahi, and Phulbani MLA Uma Charan Mallick.
