Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi inaugurated and laid foundation stones for 187 development projects worth ₹1,330 crore in Keonjhar, including the launch of a modern e-bus service with women drivers and guides. The initiative aims to boost infrastructure, empower women, and reduce carbon emissions, marking a new chapter in the district’s growth.
Keonjhar, Apr 29: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Wednesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stones for a series of development projects worth ₹1,330.24 crore in Keonjhar district. The ambitious initiative covers 187 projects aimed at strengthening infrastructure, improving public services, and driving inclusive growth in the mineral-rich district.

A major highlight of the event was the launch of a modern urban transport system. The Chief Minister flagged off 25 state-of-the-art electric buses and inaugurated the ‘Ama Bus’ depot, constructed at a cost of ₹17 crore. The e-bus service is designed to provide affordable, safe, and eco-friendly public transport, with fares starting at just ₹5.

The buses are fully air-conditioned and equipped with advanced safety features including CCTV cameras, panic buttons, and GPS tracking. These measures are expected to ensure secure travel, particularly for women passengers. The initiative also marks a milestone in women’s empowerment, with 30 women guides and two women drivers joining the workforce. In total, around 150 people have been engaged under the project, creating new employment opportunities in the district.

Addressing the gathering, CM Majhi emphasized Keonjhar’s significant contributions to Odisha’s economy and noted that the district had been neglected in the past. He assured that under the current government, development has gained momentum, citing the upcoming mega steel plant project as an example of the district’s growing industrial potential.

Highlighting the environmental benefits of the e-bus service, Majhi said the initiative could help reduce carbon emissions by 330 to 390 tonnes annually. He added that plans are underway to expand the service to other cities, with an allocation of ₹238 crore earmarked for maintenance and expansion.

The launch of the e-bus service is expected to transform urban mobility in Keonjhar, while the broader package of projects will enhance connectivity, public amenities, and economic opportunities across the district.

With this initiative, Keonjhar is set to witness a new phase of growth, positioning itself as a model district for sustainable development and inclusive progress in Odisha.
