Bhubaneswar, Sep 2: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday hailed the launch of India’s first indigenous semiconductor chip at the SEMICON India 2025 Conclave in New Delhi, calling it a “historic milestone” in the nation’s technological journey.
The event, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, spotlighted Odisha’s growing role in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
CM Majhi congratulated Parala Maharaja Engineering College (PMEC), Berhampur, for developing the High-Performance Multiplier IC (C2S0061), a key component of the Made in India chip. “This achievement reflects Odisha’s innovation and commitment to self-reliance,” Majhi posted on X, formerly Twitter.
The chip, developed under the Chip-to-Startup (C2S) initiative, is expected to enhance high-speed computing and embedded systems, reinforcing India’s push for semiconductor independence. Majhi also lauded NIT Rourkela’s contributions—the VG Amplifier and Sensor Circuit (C2S0018) and the Present Encryption Core (C2S0017)—which were also featured in the commemorative memento presented to PM Modi.

At the conclave, CM Majhi inaugurated the Odisha Pavilion, showcasing the state’s robust infrastructure, policy framework, and investment-ready opportunities. “Odisha is poised to become the next big hub for semiconductor and electronics innovation,” he declared.
Adding momentum to this vision, the Centre recently approved two semiconductor manufacturing units in Odisha. SicSem Private Limited, in collaboration with Clas-SiC Wafer Fab Ltd. (UK), will establish a Silicon Carbide-based compound semiconductor facility in Info Valley, Bhubaneswar. Meanwhile, 3D Glass Solutions Inc. (3DGS) will set up a vertically integrated advanced packaging and embedded glass substrate unit, bringing cutting-edge technology to India.
CM Majhi’s five-day visit to the capital includes participation in the GST Council meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, where proposals to rationalize GST slabs will be discussed. On September 4, he will inaugurate an Omfed Café and Koraput Coffee Café at Odisha Bhavan, before returning to the state on September 5.
Odisha’s presence at SEMICON India 2025 signals a bold stride toward technological leadership, with academia, industry, and government converging to shape the future of India’s semiconductor ambitions.
