Bhubaneswar, July 22: In a decisive move to his zero-tolerance stance on corruption, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday dismissed two government officials following their convictions in separate vigilance cases.
The dismissed officials include Dr. Karunakar Rout, a senior medical officer serving in the Mental Health and Cancer Care Department at Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital, and Babilata Behera, a supply inspector posted in Mayurbhanj district.
Dr. Rout was previously charged by the Vigilance Department for accepting bribes during his tenure at Madhuban Community Health Centre in Jajpur. Departmental proceedings were initiated, leading to his suspension. Following a conviction by the Vigilance Court, the Chief Minister ordered his immediate dismissal.

Similarly, Behera was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe during her posting in Kaniha block of Angul district. She was convicted by the Vigilance Special Judge in Angul and subsequently removed from service.
The Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) said that these actions reflect Majhi’s commitment to ethical governance. “No corrupt official will be spared, regardless of rank,” the statement read, adding that the Anti-Corruption Department has been instructed to intensify its crackdown on misconduct across all sectors.
