Flood Fury / Odisha CM Announces Rs1,000 Cr Relief Package For Flood-Hit Areas

Bhubaneswar, Aug 18: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced a Rs 1,000 crore relief package for the flood-affected areas in the state, officials said.

The announcement came after CM Majhi reviewed the prevailing flood situation in six districts — Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Kendrapara — where nearly 9.40 lakh people have been affected and thousands displaced.

“Rs1,000 crore package is announced based on the preliminary estimation and additional funds would be provided if required after getting the detailed damage assessment from the flood-hit districts,” CM Majhi said.

The package includes input agricultural subsidy for farmers over crop damage, supply of seeds, repair of lift irrigation projects, and support for those who lost their livelihood. Officials said the relief measures are aimed at stabilizing rural communities that have borne the brunt of the deluge.

This marks the second spell of floods in Odisha this season, with continuous rainfall leaving several districts vulnerable. The Chief Minister emphasized that the government is committed to swift rehabilitation and compensation once detailed reports are submitted.

The announcement comes amid ongoing rescue and relief operations, with ODRAF, NDRF, and fire service teams deployed across affected areas. Authorities have also issued advisories for fishermen not to venture into the sea, as rough conditions persist along the Odisha coast.

The relief package is expected to provide immediate succour to farmers and households grappling with crop loss, damaged infrastructure, and disrupted livelihoods, while additional funds may be mobilized depending on the extent of damage reported.
