Bhubaneswar, Sep 23: On the occasion of National Ayurveda Day, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday announced the establishment of a new Ayurveda college at Rairangpur in Mayurbhanj district.
The project, estimated at Rs 85 crore, is part of the state’s broader initiative to promote indigenous medical systems and expand access to holistic treatment, CM Majhi said.
Vision for Holistic Healthcare
Speaking at the state-level celebration held at Jayadev Bhavan, CM Majhi emphasized the importance of integrating traditional medicine into the mainstream healthcare system. “Ayurveda is not just a treatment method—it’s a way of life. We are committed to making Odisha a hub for holistic wellness,” he said.
The move aligns with national efforts to revive and modernize traditional medicine under the AYUSH framework. Health officials confirmed that the new centres will be equipped with trained staff and modern facilities to ensure quality care.
Strengthening Traditional Medicine
The upcoming Ayurveda college will serve as a centre of excellence for education, research, and practice in Ayurvedic medicine. It is expected to cater to students from across the region and enhance the availability of qualified practitioners in Odisha.
In addition to the college, the Chief Minister said hat eight new Panchakarma centres will be set up across the state this year. Panchakarma, a cornerstone of Ayurvedic therapy, involves detoxification and rejuvenation treatments that have gained popularity for their preventive and curative benefits.
Looking Ahead
The Ayurveda college and Panchakarma centres are expected to be operational within the next two years, marking a significant milestone in Odisha’s healthcare development. The initiative is also seen as a tribute to the rich tribal and cultural heritage of Mayurbhanj, where traditional healing practices have long been part of community life.
