Bhubaneswar, Dec 27: The Appointment Committee of the Cabinet extended the service period of Chief Secretary of Odisha Manoj Ahuja for a period of one year from January 1, 2025, officials said on Friday.

Ahuja, a 1990 batch IAS officer, was due to superannuate on December 31. He took over as the Chief Secretary on July 1 this year, following the retirement of then Chief Secretary Pradeep Kumar Jena.

A Haryana native, Ahuja started his career as sub-collector of Dharamgarh in Kalahandi district. Later, he served as the Collector of Khordha district, Commissioner-cum-Secretary in the Steel and Mines, Sports and Youth Services departments, Commissioner of Commercial Taxes and principal secretary in the Cooperation department before his central deputation in 2017.

Ahuja was the Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare secretary when the cabinet committee on appointments approved his repatriation to Odisha cadre.

Sources said Ahuja will be instrumental in overseeing the implementation of projects and schemes planned and initiated by the Mohan Majhi government.
